Talan pulled his truck up to the stables, parked, and shut off the engine. He got out of his beat up old truck and walked into the stables. He looked around for a pick and a wheel barrow and got to work on mucking out the stalls and paddocks. He whistled to the country music playing in his head and whipped the sweat away from the brow of his cowboy hat. He had finished all the paddocks and only had a few more stalls to clean out when he got a little too carried away in his whistling. He started bobbing his head and doing a little country dance in the stall, forgetting he was in a public place.

Megan was out riding out on the trails. It was near midday and she was planning on riding a bit more after lunch. She dismounted outside the stalls barn and rolled her stirrups up and detached her helmet buckel. She patted Chief's big, strong neck and pulled the reins over him. She walked inside the barn area with Chief following close behind. As she was walking she noticed a maneuer wheel barrel. At first she was confused but when she noticed Talan whistling in the stalls she understood. She giggled. Talan no whistling in the barn! She commanded but laughed afterwards, letting him know that she was completely joking. She never stopped walking and kept leading Chief until she got the wash stall which wasn't far from where Talan was working. She took the bridle off of Cheif's large face and grabbed the halter, placed it over his nose and latched it to the cross ties. She wrapped the bridle over her shoulder than began taking off the english saddle.

Talan was too busy whistling and too wrapped up in his great country music that he didn't notice Megan walk into the barn. He finished the stall he was in and grape-vined his way on over to the next stall, threw down his pick, and continued dancing, this time getting waaay more into it... And this was why he did not dance in public...

Megan had finished taking the saddle off and placed it in the tack room then hung the bridle and reins on the cleaning rack for later cleaning. She grabbed Chief's grooming bucket and placed it near the wash stall. She laughed and paused what she was doing and walked back over to the stall Talan was working in. She entered the stall and stood with her hands on her hips, that way Talan would definitely notice her. She didn't say one word and would wait for his reaction. He's a horrible dancer. She thought to herself.

Talan continued nodding his head and picked up the pick, strumming it like a guitar, he did a slow turn-ish thing and saw Megan standing there. He dropped the pick and stuffed one of his hands in his pockets. He coughed and rubbed his forehead with the other. Um... hey... that wasn't what it looked like... um... fly... there was a fly... um... ya... He said wrinkling his forehead and squinting his eyes a little bit waiting for her taunting.

Megan tried to hold back the laughter that ws building up inside her. She stayed where she was not saying one word. Her hands were still on his hips and she raised her eyebrows at him. After what seemed like long enough Megan spoke. Talan... don't lie to me. We both know you were dancing like a maniac. Finally she giggle and relaxed, taking her hands off her hips. She began to exit the stall. You're scaring the horses. She teased and leaned against the stall door. She checked out and made sure Chief was ok then she looked back at Talan.

Talan shook his head and took a few steps towards Megan. Well, I figure that I can't be the scariest thing that they've ever seen, right? He said with a little sarcasm and a little truth in his voice. He looked at Megan, a big grin formed across his face, but just in his head. She seemed like she was no other girl that he met. Wasn't guy crazy, or at least, didn't seem like it, wasn't too involved in her looks, able to get dirty and just have some good old fun. That's the kind of friends I need. He thought to himself, friends... yes... just friends... He said over and over trying to convince himself that he did not need to be interested in any girls when he was just starting out in a new town, that was how people got bad reputations. Oh hell, stop lying to yourself... You know you want more than just a friend.

Megan laughed and put her hands into her back pockets. She was still leaning against the stall door. She rested one of her legs. She had barely put any makeup on that morning because she figured all she was doing was riding today. She didn't expect Talan to be here just yet but he was and she liked that. She always liked workers that came in to... well, in Talan's case... dance. She giggled at the thought. I don't know Talan... that was pretty scary. She said and laughed. She looked at him with a smile. Her pretty face, even though it had no makeup, was a face that a lot of guys had drooled over in the past. She had many boyfriends before and she wasn't looking for a new one yet. Especially one that worked where she did. And Brian would probably just teast her anyways. She hated it when he did that. Megan sighed. I have to go finish with Chief. When do you get off? She asked, wondering if maybe he could help her out with something when he was done working.

Talan smiled. Yeah, you're right, it is a pretty small town... They're probably not used to anything but normal. He said. He thought about her question. Yeah, see, that, I would not know, because I am almost done picking out the stalls, and I finished the paddock, but seeing as you own the place, and you're kinda my boss... I'm not quite sure... So you tell me. He said, his smile slinking down as he talked, but it was still there.

Megan thought to herself for a second. Yes, I'm the owner, but shouldn't he just have a scheduled time to come in and work? She threw the thought away and looked at him with a confused look. She still had her hands in her back pockets but she stood from her leaning spot. Talan... I mean like, when are you going to be done finishing your job? She eyed the rake and the wheel barrel. Mucking? She laughed. Hopefully she had made sense that time. She stepped out of the stall. She needed to attend to Chief. He was just standing there like there was nothing to do with life. And she had to groom him before the sweat dried up. She smiled at Talan again.

Talan shrugged, picked up the rake and continued to muck out the stall he was previously dancing in. Well, I'm almost done with the mucking, but I guess what I meant to say or ask was whether or not you wanted me to do anything else after I was done with this. He said taking a big scoop and dumping it into the wheel barrow. [/blockquote]

Megan grinned. She put her hands out of her pocket and placed them at her side. Well, considering you, me, and my brother are the only ones working so far... I need some help with the horses. She told him, raising her eyebrows. She hoped that he wouldn't take it as a date... just a lending hand. Like she had told herself before she didn't want to get caught up in a relationship right now. There was so much work to do at the barn already and it was hard to keep up with that, not including a boyfriend. But she also hoped Talan thought the same thing. It would be awkward for a couple to be working in the same place. At least, that's what she thought. Plus she didn't know if she even liked him like that. A friend was good for now. But it would change a lot of things if they started dating. She hoped he thought the same way and understood that she already had a lot on her plate so far.

Talan stepped out of the stall and placed his cowboy hat on a bag of wood chips and took off his gloves. He then turned to Megan. Oh, of course, I would be happy to help with whatever you need. He said with a smile, being there for whatever was part of being an employee, and a friend. He leaned on his right elbow, which was rested on the bag. What help with the horses do you need? He asked with curiosity in his voice, hoping it would be a little more exciting then sweeping or mucking out stalls.

Megan stepped out of the way as Talan exited the stall. She slowly began to walk back over to Chief who neighed when he saw Megan. Well you have a few options. She told him and leaned against the outside of the stall this time. She checked the aisle really quick. It had already been swept. She looked back up at Talan. There are way too many horses for me to exercise alone and I was thinking maybe you could lunge or even ride some with..... for me. She said, correcting herself but she figured it would be too late anyways. He probably had already caught her. She could feel her face blush and began to walk away towards Chief. Only if you want to though. She said, still walking away. She grabbed a brush out of the grooming bucket she had left earlier and began to brush off the saddle markings on Chief's back and barrel. She continued to avoid eye contact with Talan.

Talan smiled. So am I doing your dirty work so you can go on a hott date? He asked her in a teasing tone as he walked over to her and Chief and rubbed Chief's face. I guess I could exercise them for you... He said with a little laugh. How many of 'em do we have out here now anyway? He asked looking around, there had been horses coming, and even one or two going since Talan had been here, and he just hadn't kept track that much... Well, after all, that wasn't what he was here for.

Megan walked around the back side of Chief and began to groom on the other side of him. We only have about 14 head right now but we're going to be getting a lot more pretty soon and I would rather stay ahead of the race. She laughed a little and brushed under Chief's belly where the girth had been. She looked up at him and smiled for a second, then look back down and grabbed the hoofpick out of the bucket. She grabbed his front hoof and began to pick at it. And no, I'm not dating right now. She said, hoping maybe it would give him the idea that she wasn't interested right now.

Talan nodded. Right... Story of my life! He said with a laugh before walking back over to where he had set down his gloves and hat. He picked them up and put them on and picked up the wheel barrow full of joyousness. So, when would you like me to exercise your ponies for you? He asked with a little smirk, waiting for her answer before he went to empty out the wheel barrow.

Megan put the hoof down and leaned her hand on Chief's neck. She smiled at Talan but didn't look at him. Well, whenever you're done mucking those stalls. I'm gonna go claim another horse to ride when I put Chief away. So take your pick. She said and pulled the cross tie over her head. She patted Chief's nose and worked her way around the horse picking his hooves. Then she grabbed the lead rope and attached it the halter, unlatched the cross ties. I'll follow you out. She said. Just then Chief snorted. Megan smiled.

Talan smiled and started wheeling out the barrow to the "dumping grounds." Then he looked back at Megan. So I guess maybe I'll see you out on a trail or something? Talan asked her and waited for her answer before he went off on the little trail that led to the ostricized dump. [/blockquote]

Megan led Chief outside. He raised his head high and nickered to his pasture mates who then nickered back. Megan laughed. She loved how the horses had become such friends. Maybe. She said, wondering why he didn't think they could just ride together. She shrugged her shoulders when he didn't look and went the other way that Talan was going. She unhooked the halter and Dreamer and Bryne had come up to greet him. Chief pushed through them and Megan laughed. Then she put Chief's halter around her shoulder and grabbed Dreamer's. He came up to her without hesitation and she easily slipped the halter over his nose and latched it. She left the paddock and began to walk back into the barn.
